In the classroom . . .

THE MAKING OF A MOBILE

Before break the AM and PM class worked collaboratively on this beautiful mobile (lovingly called the Festivus mobile). It’s a tradition we re-introduce each year during the time when the world is decorated, bringing in elements of light and festively making things.

The work requires a needle and thread which also requires bravery and lots of concentration.

At this time of the year the children are ready to take this leap and this group was particularly helpful and encouraging to each other. It is also intentional to ask the children to work on something that belongs to all of us and works that stay at school. The focus has shifted from individual to the group.

We notice that the children use the skills they have explored during their other work in the classroom, art table and blocks for example. They are thinking about design, color and pattern. They are also planning and executing a complex idea.

The result of all of this effort is stunning.
