What is the philosophy of the program?
Using a humanistic approach, the staff draws ideas from eclectic sources. The program incorporates the concepts of Adler, Piaget, Montessori, and others.
What age must my child be to enter the Co-op? Are there any restrictions for enrollment?
A child must be three by October 1 of the year of entry. All age eligible children are welcome at the Co-op.
Does my child need to be toilet-trained?
No. Many of the children acquire toileting skills with the encouragement of friends at school. We accept each child at any stage of development.
Are snacks provided? Who supplies them?
The Co-op provides nutritious snacks (fruit, cheese, crackers, juice, etc.) with consideration for dietary restrictions.
How often do the children play outside?
Almost every day. The children use the outdoor equipment, go sledding, hiking, and picnicking, and explore the ever-changing environs of Taylor park.
How many times a year does each parent help at the Co-op?
Either mother or father helps on an equally distributed rotating basis–approximately once every three weeks.
How does the parent help in the classroom?
The parent works unobtrusively as an extra pair of hands aiding the teacher, and is not responsible for curriculum planning.
How are holidays celebrated at the Co-op?
Our program incorporates family traditions. Sometimes we visit families in their homes for holiday activities or families may bring their holiday food and songs to us. However, we do not have a strong holiday emphasis.
